Dr. Jens Roat Kultima (previously JHMI) joins Clinical Microbiomics to further strengthen the company’s leading position in microbiome metagenomics

Clinical Microbiomics is pleased to announce that Dr. Jens Roat Kultima has joined the team as Director of Bioinformatics. Jens has a BSc and MSc in Bioinformatics from Uppsala University and completed his PhD in metagenomics under the supervision of Dr. Peer Bork at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany. During his PhD, Jens developed one of the first end-to-end processing pipelines for Illumina metagenomics data, and played an integral role in the processing and analysis of data for the largest microbial human gut gene catalog and in the detection of early stage colorectal cancer using a set of microbial marker species. Prior to joining CM, Jens worked at the Janssen Human Microbiome Institute in Boston, U.S developing metagenomic analysis methods applied to human clinical trials.

"Metagenomics as a field has been growing exponentially in recent years. It remains a significant challenge for both academic and industry scientists to design, conduct and analyze metagenomic studies and apply state-of-the-art methods. With a strong focus on microbiome bioinformatics method development I think CM has a great position to assist scientists to better understand the potential for microbiome modulations in maintaining health and diagnosing or treating different diseases. I have been fortunate to be at the very forefront of method development in this fast-paced field the past 7 years and I think my expertise will complement the CM team very well, says Jens Roat Kultima.
