Clinical Microbiomics further strengthens science team

We are very happy to announce that Helle Krogh Pedersen has joined our team as Bioinformatics Specialist.

Helle holds a PhD in integrative systems biology in type 2 diabetes from the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), following a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from Aalborg University and a master’s degree in Systems Biology from the DTU.

Helle’s research career has been centered around multi-level systems biology approaches for integrating heterogeneous data sources, with a strong focus on the gut microbiome, in the context of diabetes with the aim of making inroads into classification and stratification of patient groups, and in establishing improved understanding of the differences in disease etiology between groups.

Helle was first author on the Nature paper: “Human gut microbes impact host serum metabolome and insulin sensitivity” showing that an imbalance in gut microbiome species is associated with elevated levels of branched chained amino acids (BCAA) in the blood as well as insulin resistance - a pre-state of Type 2 diabetes. Helle has contributed to a wide list of articles in high-impact journals and has been awarded two prestigious talent prizes.
